A nine-night festival does not require nine nights of hosting. The useful plan is to decide, before the group chat fills up, which evenings are firm, which are flexible and which are deliberately free.
Gujarat Tourism's five-year festival catalogue lists Ahmedabad's 2026 Vibrant Navratri window as 11 to 20 October 2026 and marks its dates as tentative. Confirm local event timings before arranging travel or promising a start time. This guide covers social planning around the festival and does not prescribe rituals or devotional activity.
The 3-2-4 Navratri capacity plan
This original Team Cheatr planner divides nine nights by the host's capacity, not by a compulsory entertainment schedule.
3 anchor nights
Commit only when a host, place, start window and willing group are confirmed.
2 flexible holds
Decide on the day. Keep the game packed until attendance and energy are clear.
4 nights off
No hosting promise. Friends and family can follow their own plans without a cancellation message.
Three, two and four are planning defaults, not festival rules. Swap the numbers to suit work, travel, family plans and the person doing the hosting. The principle is to protect uncommitted nights before invitations go out.
Copy this nine-night capacity table
| Night | Status | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hold | Collect real availability. Do not promise a game yet. |
| 2 | Off | Leave the evening free. |
| 3 | Anchor | Confirm the shorter card-led option only if the group and time fit. |
| 4 | Off | No hosting commitment. |
| 5 | Anchor | Use a discussion-led game only if enough willing adults want it. |
| 6 | Hold | Choose a short round, a chat or no plan after the day's schedule is known. |
| 7 | Off | Protect the host's break. |
| 8 | Anchor | Confirm the final planned game night, with a clear finish time. |
| 9 | Off | Keep the night free unless the group makes a new, willing plan. |

Give every anchor night a go or no-go check
- Host: Is one person still willing to host and explain the game?
- Window: Is there enough uninterrupted time to explain, play and pack up? Use the visit-window calculator when the evening sits between other plans.
- Players: Count willing adults who can start together, not everyone expected at the gathering.
- Mode: Ask whether the group wants clear card turns, discussion and voting, or no game tonight. The no-pressure participation menu helps when preferences split.
If one check fails, move the night to Hold or Off. Do not squeeze a full explanation into a shrinking window just because the calendar cell says Anchor.

Choose the game after the night is confirmed
For a shorter, card-led anchor
Boom Machale is the relevant Cheatr option when 4 to 10 willing players aged 16+ want a card-led game listed at under 30 minutes. Confirm that the available window also covers the explanation and pack-up. Its firecracker artwork can feel seasonally lively, but theme is not a reason to ignore player count or timing.
For a discussion-led anchor
Khufia Mafia starts with seven people in the canonical instructions, including one person who acts as God, the Gamemaster. Choose it only when the group actively wants hidden roles, discussion and voting. Do not count observers as players or reveal role cards to speed up teaching.

What a useful nine-night plan prevents
- Nine vague invitations that nobody can confidently accept
- Buying or opening a game before checking who wants to play
- Turning every free evening into the same host's responsibility
- Starting a longer group activity when people are about to leave
- Treating a quiet night, a conversation or an early finish as a failed plan
Questions adult groups usually ask
Do we need to plan a game for all nine nights?
No. The planner deliberately protects nights with no hosting promise. Choose as many anchor nights as the host and group can support, and leave the rest free.
What if attendance changes on an anchor night?
Recount willing players before setup. If the selected game no longer fits, use a flexible alternative, talk without playing or end the plan. Do not add someone midway through a round or hidden-role game unless the official rules support it.
How do we choose between Boom Machale and Khufia Mafia?
Choose by willing player count and participation style. Boom Machale is card-led for 4 to 10 players aged 16+. Khufia Mafia begins at seven people including a Gamemaster and centres on hidden roles, discussion and voting. If neither description fits the group, choose another activity or no game.
