A returning group usually does not need the whole rulebook again. It needs the finish line, one normal turn and the few exceptions that could stop play.
For a Ganesh Chaturthi gathering around 14 September 2026, use this when friends or family have played before but have not touched the game for a while. If even one person is completely new, switch to Cheatr's full first-play teaching flow.
The 120-second recap order
Finish line
State exactly how the game ends and how a winner is recognised.
Turn spine
Say what a normal player may do, in the order the official rules give it.
Interruptions
Name no more than two timing rules that can affect another player's turn.
Memory trap
Correct the one mistake this returning group is most likely to repeat.
Open restart
Show the live game state and ask one player to name the available choice.
Copy and fill this recap card
We finish when: [copy the official end condition]
On a normal turn you may: [copy the official turn choices or sequence]
Another player may act when: [add only the official timing exception]
Do not confuse this with: [name one remembered mistake]
Our open restart: [point to the current state and ask what can happen next]
Fill every line from the manual, reference card or owner-designated rules. If a slot has no official answer, cross it out. Do not invent a house rule to make the card look complete.

Check whether the group is ready to start
Ask for a quick show of fingers. One finger for each statement the player can complete:
1. I remember the finish
I can say what ends the game without guessing.
2. I remember a normal turn
I can name the basic choices or sequence.
3. I remember the interruption
I know when someone may act outside the normal turn.
- Zero or one finger: run the full teach.
- Two fingers: repeat only the missing line, then begin with an open first turn.
- Three fingers: start. Keep the manual visible.
Worked example: a Boom Machale return
First check whether the group fits the current Boom Machale player and time guidance: 4 to 10 players, ages 16+, and under 30 minutes. Then give this rule recap, grounded in the official instructions:
Finish line: be the first to get rid of all your cards, or win on your turn by bursting a firecracker with any eight ignitors played at once.
Turn spine: choose one of four actions: play a sequence, play multiples of one cracker, begin bursting the top firecracker with an ignitor, or pass.
Interruption: for an ordinary burst, the second matching ignitor may come from any player, even outside that player's turn. The eight-ignitor win is different: it must happen on your own turn, all eight are played together, and the play must burst a firecracker.
Memory trap: merely holding eight ignitors is not a win.
Open restart: point to the top card and ask a returning player to name the four turn choices. Use the manual before anyone commits a card.
The focused Boom Machale finish guide gives the full recognition checks. If the group needs card-by-card legality rather than a recap, use the worked turn examples.

What not to squeeze into two minutes
- Every special card or rare edge case
- Strategy advice that returning players can rediscover
- Unverified memories presented as official rules
- New house rules introduced after cards are dealt
If two memories conflict, pause the smallest disputed action and check one official source. Use the pause, check, decide and resume process instead of turning the recap into a debate.
Questions returning groups usually ask
What if one person has never played?
Do not make that person learn from fragments aimed at returning players. Run the full first-play explanation, demonstrate one open turn and let the returning players help without skipping the newcomer's questions.
Can the recap card replace the manual?
No. It is a retrieval prompt for familiar players. Keep the official manual or owner-designated rules visible for card effects, timing questions and edge cases.
Should I make one card for every game we own?
Make a separate card only for games the group returns to often. Copy each line from that game's official sources, date the card and update it if the rules change.
The 120-second recap order, fill-in card and three-finger readiness check are original Team Cheatr tools created for this article. Boom Machale claims were checked against the owner-designated rules and current official product page on 13 September 2026.
